Sunnydale Cowl - Making a Variegated Yarn Sing with Elongated and Dropped Stitches

The Sunnydale Cowl shows off the beauty of a variegated skein of yarn using a combination of elongated and dropped (yes, DROPPED) stitches.  Though the look is complex, the pattern itself is small, repetitive, and can easily be memorized, making it an ideal travel project. The changing flashes of color in your yarn will keep you entertained from cast-on to bind-off! The original cowl was done in a fingering weight yarn, but we will be working on a worsted weight adaptation for a quick project.

  • Instructor Bio

Katy Carroll taught herself to knit from a book in 2004, and now a not-insignificant mountain of yarn and knitting books threatens to take over her home. She enjoys a variety of knitting techniques, but cables - specifically cabled sweaters - have her heart. Katy released her first knitting pattern under the name "Katinka Designs" in early 2005, and her portfolio has since grown to 74+ patterns on Ravelry. In March of 2021, she and Camera Meyer opened Petit Fours & Purls, a yarn and tea shop in Lehi. Katy loves working with adventurous beginners and helping them gain the skills and confidence to propel their knitting forward. The Sunnydale Cowl has been one of her most popular and consistently sold patterns since its release in 2017.
