In this class we will explore basic color theory using three natural dyes: indigo, cochineal, and osage orange. By combining each of these colors, students will learn how to produce secondaries and tertiaries resulting in 13 different colors and a complete color wheel! Materials include a notebook of class information, a color wheel, and samples of each color.
 
Level: Beginner
Ages: Suitable for 14+
Materials Fee (included in class cost): $20 covers notebook with handouts, metal ring for samples, 13 mini skeins, and a color wheel
Options: none
Please Bring: Disposable gloves and wear older clothing or a dye apron. Part of this class will be held outdoors, so bring appropriate outdoor clothing as needed.

  • Instructor Bio

    Gina Levesque is a fourth generation rug hooker and has been hooking for over twenty years. One of her greatest pleasures is to dye wool for her creations and the creations of others. Her dyeing experience covers not only acid dyes but also naturals dyes. Her business, Across Generations, sells her hand-dyed wools and other rug hooking supplies. Her hand-dyed wools can also be found on her Etsy store as well as quilt shops such as The Quilted Crow (Bolton, MA), Sew Many Quilts (Checotah, OK), Tiger Valley Quilt Company (Utica, NY),and A Bolt Load of Fabric (Wagoner, OK).

    Please note: Full refunds are available until February 28, 2026. After February 28th, we will refund 50% of the class fee, and after March 31st, 2026, refunds are no longer available, unless you can find someone to take the class in your place.

    Transfers to other classes will be approved on an individual basis.
