In this 6 hour class, students will learn to weave a rib-style basket from dyed and natural rattan reed, incorporating a deer antler shed as the handle or focal point of the basket. The project will be focused on a melon shaped basket with a three point lashing rim. The antlers will be pre-drilled with the primary rib shape inserted. Antler choice, drilling, rim and rib placement, increasing and decreasing, design choice, and finishing will be discussed.
Level: Beginner
Ages: Suitable for children ages 12 and older with an adult also taking the class.
Materials Fee (included in class cost): $45.00 covers all of the materials.
Options: none
Please Bring: Small, sharp scissors, a small awl or flat headed screwdriver, a squirt bottle for water, an old towel to keep reed moist, and 1 or 2 plastic water basins (approx. 15"L x 5"H x 12"W).

Instructor Bio
For more than 25 years Connie has been making baskets and teaching this craft to others. In addition to traditional and pine needle basketmaking, Connie is also interested and active in weaving, natural dyeing, and punch needle rugmaking.
