My First Lace Shawl with Katy Carroll (Fri AM)
The Helia Shawl pattern is a pretty, wearable, and achievable project for a knitter's first lace shawl! In this class, students will make a "shawl swatch" in worsted weight to get familiar with the different elements of a shawl, preparing them to later knit the full shawl in fingering weight as designed.
We'll start with learning the garter tab cast-on (a common beginning for most top-down triangular shawls), followed by a small stockinette body, before finishing with a simple but lovely lace border. We'll also discuss ways to block lace pieces for maximum visual impact. The pattern is included in the cost of the class.
Level: Adventurous Beginner - Knitters should be comfortable knitting/purling and willing to learn lace!
Ages: 10+
Materials Fee: none
Options: knitting needles and future shawl yarn will be available to purchase from instructor
Please Bring: US 8 circular needle (24" is ideal), solid-colored worsted weight yarn

Instructor Bio
Katy Carroll is the co-owner of local yarn shop Petit Fours & Purls in Lehi, UT. She has been designing knitting patterns since 2015 under "Katinka Designs" and currently has over 80 patterns available on Ravelry. She likes green yarn and silk blends, and she believes that cables make any knit better.
